About Me

Hi there; I’m Janet (Jan to friends… hope you’ll be one soon). I hope you’re enjoying my blog. I made this because I love helping people learn to cook. I’m not talking about becoming a five star chef but just….cooking. So many people love the idea but are weak on the actual doing and that’s understandable. Cooking can be tricky when it doesn’t consist of taking a pack of Ramen noodles and throwing them on the stove lol or shoving a Healthy Choice dinner in the microwave.

Mind you, I have nothing against those things; they can be pretty tasty sometimes but I’m hoping that I can show you how to do a little more when you’re in the mood. That doesn’t mean you’ll never see processed or boxed foods in here. Cake mixes are awesome! So are canned soups, canned veggies and fruits and a lot of other things that the culinary world turns their respective noses up at. But you know what? It’s what most of us tend to use and turn towards when time is tight and ambitions are low so why not learn to use it in ways that will take your food from blah to yum? πŸ™‚

Telling you about me in ways that don’t pertain to cooking is a little harder. Think Robin Williams and Paula Deen having a kid and you’ll be close. Darn, I just gave MYSELF the willies with that one. But it’s fitting. I’m a mom of six kids (three grown and married) who tends to be snarky, sarcastic, silly, thoughtful and maudlin by turns. And that’s all in ten minutes hehe. I love to cook obviously but I’m much more than that. I am a big advocate for taking care of our special needs children because I have a teenage boy with various emotional/mental challenges. I’m a woman who will read anything from cookbooks (yes, I read them not look for recipes lol. You mean you don’t? πŸ˜› ) to cheap romances to biographies to history to Christian fiction. I’ve worked at everything in the food industry (and beyond) from restaurants to hotels to private homes (as a nanny many eons ago) to doing freelance writing & housekeeping. Today though, I’m a happy stay at home mom with three kids still at home; two teenage boys and a 3 year old boy. My husband and my kids & grandkids (honest; I became a gramma young lol) are the joys of my life. I look forward to getting to know people via this blog. If you want to ask me anything, ask away. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Charlotte! Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I love hearing things like this. Not to mention, now I want to try that coffee, hehe. What part of Germany? I lived in Mannheim for three years back in the 80’s and still miss it there!
